Sri Rama Rajyam review

Genre:
Mythology | Family
Directed by:
Bapu
Movie Cast:
Balakrishna, Nayantara, ANR, K.R. Vijaya, Srikanth, Brahmanandam
Superstar Balakrishna finally stepped into his legendary father NTR's shoes and impressed audiences playing the role of Lord Rama.
His performance reminded everyone of his father in a few shots, which undoubtedly cheered up the die hard Nandamuri fans.
He ably depicts the pain of the king who is caught between his love for his wife and the rule of dharma. The idealistic theme is contemporary too, since it could inspire selfish rulers in realising that they should pay more attention to the wishes of the people than their own beliefs, even at the cost of sacrificing personal happiness.
Veteran director Bapu deserves all the praise he gets for remaking the classic Lava Kusa (1963) and retaining the soul of the original. However, he could have hastened up the slow-paced narration a bit, demanded better visuals from cinematographer Raju and avoided few scenes that resembled a stage play.
Although, music maestro Ilayaraja belts out a few chartbusters, the album is no match to the enchanting compositions of the legendary Ghantasala.
Another USP of the film is the riveting performance by Nayantara, who erases her 'glam girl' image by breathing life into the role of Sita. Balakrishna too breaks away from his 'angry man' image and puts up a decent performance as an idealistic king.
The legendary ANR showcases his acting brilliance as sage Valmiki and children Tanay Teja and Satvik put in an impressive performance as Luv and Kusha.
After a long gap, we have a Telugu film that parents can watch with their kids without any embarrassing scenes.
